Elche, between Alicante and Murcia on the Costa Blanca, is the third biggest city in the Valencian region with almost 250,000 inhabitants. The city boasts a range of impressive architectural styles reflecting its long history. The River Vinalopo runs through the town and its bridges provide some of the town’s best vistas . The city is home to two world heritage sites the “El Palmeral” is the largest palm tree plantation and surrounds the city with some beautiful walks. The other is the misteri a medieval passion play that takes place in the Basilica de Santa Maria in August. El palmeral dates back to the 8th century Moorish occupation and the city is a treasure throve of sights and museums. Shopping and eating are of a variety that you would expect from a large town with a broad selection to suit most pockets and tastes. There is a large outlet village for shopping in Elche Parque Industrial Business Park about 3 km outside of the town. The main city of Alicante is only 12km away and is accessible by regular trains.
