Cartagena is an old and important naval town on the northeast of spain. In the Murcia region on the Costa Calida . Located in the centre of the Spanish Mediterranean north of the costa blanca. Cartagena on the costa calida enjoys the regions best weather without the overcrowding of some southern resorts. Cartagenas rich past is apparent in its diversity of architectural styles and its importance historically is shown in the grandeur of its buildings and municipal halls.
Outside of history and architecture the nearby countryside is ideal for walking and cycling and while lacking a natural beach the nearby resort of Mar Manor is accommodating for sun lovers and has a good selection of available water sports. The town’s history begins with the Romans and there are ruins to visit on the towns outskirts which have only been excavated in the last 20 years. There are also a number of Baroque and neo classical buildings and various tours are available, including boat rides in the cities inland waterways. Cartagena is a large townso there is a fine assortment of dining and nightlife options.
