Although Benalmadena is a separate resort to Torremolinos their proximity makes them seem similar. Both resorts sprang up at the same time to provide cheap holidays for mainly British holidaymakers. As both resorts have grown over the years they now seem to sprawl into each other. Like Torremolinos, Benalmadena can be looked down upon by those who are looking for the authentic spain, However the facts are if you are looking for a place for a great family holiday that has sun, fun and things to do for all ages then you will find it hard to better Benalmadena.

The town is divided into three areas, The old town or “pueblo” up on the hill which you will recognise as its not made of concrete. Arroyo de la Miel is the commercial centre between the pueblo and the sea and is where the vast majority of nightclubs and discos can be found. The costa area is where most of the hotels and apartments are located, over the years many of the older buildings have been replaced by architecture more pleasing to the eye. The beaches along the coast from Fuengirola to torremolinos are excellent and mostly blue flag. Mostly they are large expanses so even in high summer you will find a spot. The Marina in Benalmadena(Puerto Marina) is attractive and has brought some class to the resort with many of the bars around the area being more Jazz fusion and Panini’s than N-Dubz and Egg and chips. There is a great selection of restaurants and bars in Benalmadena and clubbers can party till sunrise in Arroyo de la miel. Benalmadena is a hilly resort once you get back from the coast, so if you have any mobility issues you should check exactly where your accommodation is on a map because some apartments in Benalmadena are 3km up the hills.
